Dear travellers,

Are you enjoying the coasts?! Many of us are leaving there, working there, most of us are enjoying coastal waters for hobbies and holidays…

Last week was coastal clean-up day and PADI AWARE week.  It is a week to raze awareness about ocean pollution and actions to tackle it.

Why it is important to participate in those?! If you don’t know yet that we need healthy oceans to keep on enjoying life as we do now… well, you are now informed….

And if not convinced go read more report about it and you will see but at least let’s keep our coasts clean and enjoyable for us this year and the many more to come!

What to do against plastic pollution?!  Simple: reduce your plastic usage in daily life and

Clean up! We don’t need only super hero or clean-up Karens… Any contributions counts. It can be during your morning run, evening walk, lunch break, Saturday dive or simply during your SUP time after work… pick up what does not belong there (stay safe though)… and dispose of it correctly.

Pollution is not only from visible things…. Components from our care products leak in to the sea when we are in the water…

When we enter the water during the day for an activity: we need to protect ourselves from the sun or maybe keep our skin & hair moisturised….  So let’s do so in a respectful way for our oceans.

It was estimated that around 14 000 tons of sunscreen enters the oceans every year!!!  And some are extremely toxic to marine life. Yes… but don’t feel so down… We have here some easy advices to make better choices! To respect our skin/hair and the Oceans!!!

1- Use sunblock clothing, there are various nice brands, different cuts and tons of pattern to choose from.

2- If you still want to show off that bikini body of yours and get suntanned: Your call should can be made in the store when you get that sunscreen: you need to avoid totally product containing: OXYBENZONE and or OCTINOXATE they are very toxic to corals.

Let’s not be fooled by the “Reef friendly” or “Ocean safe” labels as there is no official regulation for those and it is NOT required  by manufactures to actually test if the product is impacting reefs or not. Check the ingredient list for the components above!

Those are easy choices you can make to respect ourself and the oceans a little more: be a part of the conservative ocean squad!

Live every week like it’s aware week. Enjoy and respect the oceans.
